Would you like to know about planning activity in an area of Fingal? In the past, you would have had to make the trip to Fingal County Council offices in Swords or Blanchardstown to view details of planning applications in a Fingal area. With up to 70 new planning applications per week in the Fingal area, keeping up to date was not an easy task. Now you can view all planning files in Fingal on the Web at www.fingalcoco.ie – and browse by location through an interactive mapping website. You can browse the maps by area, to find a planning application of interest and view the full planning file – including the planning decision, the planner’s report, applicant information, correspondence, site maps and architectural drawings. Alternatively, if you know some details about the planning application you can find the file, then display a map to show the location and site boundary of the application.
This service will benefit all stakeholders in the Fingal area – from current and prospective residents and businesses to solicitors and developers involved in property transactions. It will reduce the time it takes for people to browse and view planning files, and enable Fingal County Council planning staff to provide a better service to the public who visit their offices.
Other interactive maps that Fingal currently publish via the Web include Bathing Areas & Bathing Water Quality, Recycling Centres, and Burial Grounds. If you would like to find a beach in Fingal and check its water quality you can do this online with just a few mouse clicks. You can also find out where your nearest centre is for recycling garden waste, electrical items or any other household items.
To enable all of this to happen, Fingal County Council use a piece of software called Location Publisher – developed by IMGS. Location Publisher enables Fingal County Council to create and publish a range of interactive mapping themes, as well as create an instant “Show Map” link from any story or feature on the Fingal County Council website.
“Location Publisher is very easy to use, and the service we receive from IMGS is excellent” says Gerry Duane, Head of Information Technology at Fingal County Council. “So much of what the council does is linked to a particular location – whether it is providing sports facilities, waste collection, water, roads or housing. Over the coming weeks we will be publishing more and more useful mapping information to the Web”.
